Photography One: My Portfolio: Spring 2012

Artist Biography:

Ever since Kindergarten when Leanna Johnson won a second place ribbon in the art show at a local rodeo for a firefighter she drew, she knew she wanted to go into art at some point in her life.

When she was in the eleventh grade, she entered her photographs into the Contemporary Art Museum of Houston for a contest they were having involving high school students called, “Captured: A Portrait Photography Exhibition.” Leanna decided to enter the contest, and take pictures of her cousins playing outside, capturing moments of life just like the exhibition mentioned. One day, she got an email saying she was included into the exhibition, which lasted for one month. After that experience, Leanna loved taking pictures of anything and everything. She started looking for unique places to shoot around where she lived. Her favorite way to shoot back then was very close up and Macro, but now she loves taking portraits of people, and making them feel beautiful. Leanna was very influenced throughout high school with her decision to become a photographer thanks to her two high school art teachers. Mrs. Peggy Artstripe from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas and Mrs. Michelle Shepherd from Lone Peak High School in Cedar Hills, Utah. They both helped her throughout everything she did with art, and continued supporting her as she grew up.

Leanna hasn’t had any formal training in photography before she entered into college in 2011, and she doesn’t currently sell her work anywhere. Leanna wants to go through college to gain a good knowledge of photography, and put together a strong portfolio before she starts asking for payments. For now she is doing free photo shoots throughout the year of close friends and family members. She loves working outside in the natural light, and her editing includes working in Lightroom and Photoshop for a unique, contrasted, clean look.

Leanna Johnson currently resides in Cedar Hills, Utah working on graduating college. She hopes one day follow her dreams and open her own studio somewhere taking portraits as a professional photographer.
